Copyright Law
A common misconception is that if something does not carry the Copyright symbol, it is not copyrighted. In truth, anything that is created is automatically copyrighted. While it is obviously preferrable from the standpoint of the creator to utilize the Copyright symbol (along with a name and date) it is not necessary for the work to be protected.
The Digital Millenium Copyright Act (PDF) of 1998 was designed to protect all digital works including, but not limited to, software, music, fonts and clipart. The DMCA protects the rights of the original creators against piracy and unlawful distribution of their works. |
